Everyone use the black background for this? There is an other way! USE the FLASH(but the real background must be far away from the main subject).
For example: you want to shoot a flower in sunlight. Use the M mode of your DSLR(but auto mode for the flash),and then set the DSLR to: f 13-16;1/1000-1/4000s;ISO100;light measure mode:piont. Then make the flower at the center of the photo(within the "piont light measuer" range) and shoot.
The result is that the "f"and the high speed make the real backgroud black(make the sun light week),and the flower is lit only with your flash. You may ask why the real background is not lit by the flash? It is because it is far away from the flower. You can calculate the light which your flash added to the real background by the following. If the distance between the flash and the flower is 1m; the distance between the flash and the real background is 3m, the light your flash added to the real background is just 1/9 of the light added to the flower(3/1)^2=9.This can be ignored.
