
You can be successfull in stock without having a large people portfolio but you have to think concepts. Have a look at some of the photos around and see what sells. Then try and think of creative ideas that would be usuable in a concept.
I had a hard time starting out with people. Not because of the modelrelease issue, which I really don't find an issue, but once you start with people you'll be amazed at how many more people will be willing to pose for you! Try things as modelmayhem.com to get models that are willing to pose for ftp.
And if you don't look people photography just find something that will work for you. One of my most successfull images is of people, but the next best one is an animal... A pig to be exact...:) So it's hard to predict sometimes what will sell and what will not!
