Thanks for the response Achilles. There is no denying that you and your staff have built a very successful business. Your business practices, thirst for achievement, desire for excellence, etc. have been exemplary over the years. Dreamstime is one of my favorite sites, and I am proud to have been a part of it from the beginning. What you guys have done to this point is amazing and I applaud you. So why not continue to do what you've been doing? Why not continue to be successful and yet remain faithful to those who have got you here - your photographers. You have accomplished all of this while paying a 50% commission to your photographers, there is no reason why you could not continue to do so.
You say, "The energy that took us here, can take us further." That's my point exactly. Continue to be the site that treats it's photographers the best. Continue to be the site that pays a fair and honest commission. There is no reason Dreamstime cannot continue to be a powerhouse in this industry while continuing to be faithful and fair with us.
Like I said before, the increased revenue from the higher prices should provide you with plenty of extra money to devote to any increased marketing you feel is needed. There is no reason to dip into our cut. posted in Price adjustments
I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I'm shocked at how many of you are so excited about this. Dreamstime is telling us they are going to cut our commissions! How is this possibly good news for us photographers? Dreamstime has been a growing, thriving business for the past 4 or 5 years. They even told us in the initial post that traffic is up 90 percent over the past 12 months. If Dreamstime can grow at such a significant pace while paying us 50% commissions, why is it that all of a sudden they need more money? Traffic is up, prices are up, so Dreamstime is making way more money now than it was 12 months ago. Why do they need to take more from our cut? This just seems like greed to me. Some of you will say "they prices are up, so we are not going to see a decrease". So what? It is a scheduled price increase. Why should Dreamstime take all the extra revenue from the increase.
Do the right thing Dreamstime. Leave our commissions right where they are. You don't need the extra money, you're doing fine with the commission levels where they are at right now. posted in Price adjustments
