Basically, you can take images on a larger scale (12 mp with the G9), but the sacrifice for it is highly pixelated images at the higher ISOs.
I haven't had problems with the G9. I don't think I could sell anything from it taken at ISO 1600 or higher, but 100, 200, and 400 are just fine and dandy. You can even go down to 80 and the images look fantastic! I always shoot in RAW, though, which makes it easier to reduce noise. Once you hit ISO 800 with the G9, expect a good bit of noise.
All in all, though, I think the G9 is great. I looked at both this one and the G7, and found the G9 to have more benefits. But that's just a matter of opinion.
