to pay 100 USD for custom photography sounds like a good idea, however : Imagine you live in Sweden and need a tropic countryside picture. There are not many friends to go to Mauritius for 100 USD and make custom pictures for you. On the contrary somebody who lives in LA would not travel hundreds of miles to make a custom pictures with snow peaks for you to earn 100 bucks... OK the custom pictures scope is sometimes limited. before you go to shoot pictures, try to think what keywords your pictures are going to have if you will upload them. Then, go to DT and try to find pictures with those keywords. You will see how big is the competition in terms of number and quality and if it make sense to add another pile of similar pictures, the same topic. Also you will see the number of downloads on the competetive pictures already uploaded. You then see if there is a demand for your topic once the picture is uploaded. Even if there are a lot of pictures on the same topic, consider if your pictures are at least a little bit different, more creative etc.. to my opinion I would say that for stock photos you will have an issue with compact cameras. Those geeks have small chips (in terms of area) and thus the digital noise is much higher than this of DSLR. To stay competetive you nedd to buy high end compact to achieve good technical parameters for acceptation. I guess you can buy a low end DSLR such as NIKON D3000 or CANON EOS1000 istead, even second hand. It gives you much more value it terms of future development (acessories, lenses, speedlights etc...) of your system or residual value in case of sellout and upgrade. posted in Which compact camera do you use for stock?
