Well as the old saying goes. -

What exactly is in it for me? If someone buys one of my images as a print do 'I' get extra money? I imagine Dreamstime will make extra money from this service but will 'I' just get the usual 'credit' sale price or as I said wiil 'I' get any extra money for the sale of a print?

If the answer is no then I don't think I'd be comfortable being forced to 'opt-in' to this program when there's clearly no advantage to me as far as increased takings go!

I'll be watching with interest.

So if I get it well, a print sale will bring in the same amount of revenue as a regular credit download? Nothing more, nothing less?

If the agency is able to attract a new pool of buyers, this idea could work out very well. I hope DT can direct that new pool to the site, because microstock and prints are not quite the same thing, attracting totally different buyers. I don't think anyone in his right mind would want some "perfect" business team picture hanging in their living room.

Therefore, I hope editors can be just a tiny bit more lenient towards artier images in the future ;-)

Furthermore, does the new idea has any consequences for exclusive contributors selling prints through their own website, or wherever?

Not criticizing here, I actually like the idea very much!

Looks like I may have misunderstood. If I only get a commission on the sale of the image and not on the printing then it would be no advantage to me to buy prints of my own images as I would in effect be buying my own photo and then paying 100% of the printing costs. Shame, I thought that this was going to be a cheaper way of me getting prints as I would get part of the money I paid back in commissions.

Is the pricing structure going to be different for the prints? If I post a full size image can that be printed for the same price as the standard RF downloads? If so why would I not be able to opt out considering that I also sell my own gallery prints of my images?

Why would anyone want to compete with themselves on DT and then undercut themselves in the commission? Who would wish to sell a print on DT and make 35 cents when the same print goes for 20 or 30 dollars when sold by me? I can say without reservation that if DT wants to sell my images as prints for the same price as web usage There is no incentive for me to use DT. This does not sound like it benefits the contributors who sell their prints elsewhere. Perhaps I'm reading the announcement wrong and if I am please correct me.

I'm not quite sure if this is going to make any difference to our earnings but I guess it all depends on how Dreamstime attracts more print orientated buyers. As it looks as if this going ahead though I might as well roll with it and hope that it works well for all of us so I've just started a collection of images that might be suitable for this "Order a Print" feature: Fine Art Images May as well start now eh?! I will also have a look for other members pics to add to the collection.

I think this is great news, what will be the Royalties earned by the photographers?

The idea of Calendars is great, if you could expand it to this.

How about foreign countries, isnt the postage going to be too expensive or you are making partnership with companies that could print locally in other markets?

This is a bad idea. It badly underpays contributors for fine art photos. Other stock sites pay more for prints.

As others have already asked, I would be interested to hear clarification on a couple of points before giving this a thumbs up:

1. What will be the revenue from print sales? Is it the same as a credit sale, or does the contributer get a share of the print cost markup?

2. Are all prints distributed worldwide from a single production house, or are you using national outlets?

3. How are you going to monitor the quality of the products offered?

Thanks!

I recently added that option to my photo blog, since DT and other sites where I post images for license sales didn't have it. Thanks guys, I hope it'll help everyone :).
