It's a great idea, and I hope there will be more room for landscapes and nature images in your acceptance criteria. I see also possibilities that food image may be used to decorate restaurants

A question: will the buyer of the print get a digital file of the image too?

A suggestion: there could be a tool for adding text to the images. This could open a lot of possibilities for the creative buyer that however doesn't have many skills for editing the image prior to sending to a photo lab.

Yes, credit line will be available on the posters. I'm not sure if ths is possible on canvases.

As for the split, my first post mentions that the agency&photographer get their share as per our regular royalty breakdown. The maximum size is always used, even if in some cases the large size could be enough for print. That means that we charge the highest fee that is possible for RF. Other than this, I'm afraid I don't see what we could do.

There will be no digital file attached.

As an exclusive it seems like a great way to increase sales - exclusive terms prohibit selling through a print on demand service so it would be nice to take part via DT... Seems like a good way to get people purchasing the maximum size.

How about subs? Will subscription buyers be able to use sub credits for this purpose?

Serban, you mentioned that DT already accepts fine art photos, but will there be a separate category for these? I have CGI illustrations that I've been told would qualify as fine art that I'd like to see included.

I really think that sellers that do not want to take part in this printing service should be respected. Why use force when you don't have to?

Just make a new checkbox under the "Rights management area" for the image submitting area. When you can opt out for not selling on web, print or selling the rights, why not on the new service?

Leave the checkbox on by default, and at least 95% of images submitted will be ok for the printing service. Everybody's happy.

IF FORCE IS USED:

- Some good images will not be submitted

- Some good images will be deleted from DT

- Some dissatisfied users

That's a lose-lose in my book. Make it a win-win by making it voluntary.

Have a nice day

Since I have a separate business that sells prints on the side. . I will, if forced to sell prints for a pittance here, remove all my photos and deactivate them from further sales. I realize I don't have a huge portfolio but I'm not going to provide a venue for someone to print gallery sized 16 MB prints from my camera as wall art without paying an appropriate price.

Hmm can buyers not download them (potentially via subscription) and send them to print labs now?

There seems to be a lot of confusion here (I was a bit confused about it all myself!)

But what's to stop someone from buying a file at max resolution and going to a local printer with said file and getting the file printed on whatever medium or whatever size that he/she wants?

It could have a lot of potential if fully utilized like someone before me suggested by printing on mugs, mouse mats, t-shirts. I also like the idea of posters made to order with text.

It's too early to shoot it down in flames just yet. Let's wait and see.

I'm sure DT will be receiving a reasonable markup on the print/canvas production costs (otherwise, why do it!)......I think what contributors are looking for is a share of this markup in addition to the RF sale! (After all, without the image there is no print!). Is that unreasonable to expect? Personally, I'd just be happy with any extra sales, but then this is very much just a hobby for me. However, for contributors who aim to make a serious income from their images, and sell them independantly as prints as well as on DT (people like Lightart), I can see this being a problem.

I agree with the above, I sell my own prints and if there is no opt out option I will remove my images from DT.

DT must give people the choice to sell as prints or not, it's bad enough getting only 35c for a max size sub.

Thaat seems to be a good point ... so why does DT think buyers will have DT make prints. Just take a subscription image to WalMart???

That is a good point. .and one I had not considered, frankly because I had never really noticed the 'fine print' allowance under RF licensing. I may have to totally reconsider whether I want to continue to abide by that.

This may not be a not a bad idea, but the guidelines seem to be very confusing. I believe that we need a better explanation of how it will work, pricing, etc.

What sizes are available? Of course, it depends on the size of the file as far as maximum print size. You can't use a small file (i.e., 6MPs) and expect to get a quality 20x30 print.

What type of equipment/paper, inks will be used? Quality to me will be of utmost importance.

Overall though, it looks like we have a mixed bag of opinions on this concept.

I like the idea very much! I'm thinking of adding this feature to my website as "order posters and canvases" with a direct link to DT. My question: If someone (referred by me through my website) registers and orders a print do I just receive the usual 10% for the image or 10% of the whole purchase?
