Realizing that many people do not share the same ideal/viewpoint, an optional content filter means people like me will be able to use the site with less concern of compromising their ideals. It's a great way to allow people with polarized views to co-exist happily and make DT more successful at the same time. :)

I would just like to say that I feel this way and whole-heartedly encourage a content filter.

there should absolutely be a content filter. there is on the leading site of dreamstime's kind, and it works great.

as to potential uses for nudes, i'm not positive what they all are, but they're out there; i uploaded three shots of myself nude to another site (and i'm a male with a few tattoos and a good number of piercings) and two of them sold quite well (which was even more of a boost to my ego than selling my other shots! ;). i imagine print and online catalogs and other materials dealing with alternative approaches to life and sex would be able to use these images. sex toys catalogs and stuff. though, as i say, i don't really know. i'm just a simple photographer. i just know which of my images sell.

unfortunately, DT admins rejected these same images as "unsuitable for RF stock". now if that's true, why do they sell so well on other RF stock sites?

Plaintiger, the limit between adult and artistic nude is thin. I'm not even discussing porn... We accept artistic nudes, but if there is even the slightest amount of adult feeling in that shot, or the lighting is not simply perfect, it will be immediately refused. I'm not saying your shots were adult, I didn't review them.

It doesn't matter if they sell and yes, they sell well. We are not an adult site and will not make compromises on this matter, even after the content filter will be in place. Thus, we've taken into consideration all these suggestions, a content filter will soon be available, but the selection rules will be the same.

I also welcome a content filter. I quite like artistic nudes myself but I am in the process of asking several people to be models for me and would like to show them the site. As some of them are quite conservative (some for religious reasons and others because that's the way they are), it would be much easier if I could show them where they might end up without having naked people popping up (no matter how tastefully done)!

LOL, I hope none of us are considering this!! Nudes are fine, but when you add the words "amatuer" and "of myself" to a nude image.....well, it just creates a funny picture in the mind. :)

I was mailed this link to this Forum post by DT - I have been a member for awhile but never knew that DT accepted such images. I guess I just woke up - LOL

I can't seem to find where DT states what images they accept? Can anyone post a link?

Other stock sites have very detailed explanations to what nudity they accept. Don't get me wrong I shoot fine art nudes and fetish, but some of the images I recently found shocked me.

Thanks

Wow- very interesting topic, I have never thought of "Porn" on a site such as DT...so when I read peoples opinions on this message board I thought I should check it out. I typed in nudes and I was surprised by what I saw...I would say that many of the photographs are Explicit in my point of view, and it is a real turnoff. :(
I bet many are going straight onto porn sites and mags. Yes I do think there needs to be a totally separate section for these sorts of images. Also,I think too many of the wrong sorts of images are being excepted.

This is a commercial site, not a site to hang out or to see nice pics (you have tons of free sites for that like photnet or flickr or whatever) the only reason to have images here is to find a buyer.

Designers need images to illustrate stuff if this happens to be nude it's a circumstancial event or explain me how they are going to produce a poster of selft breast testing for an anti-cancer campaign; how to sell an anti-cellulite lotion without a perfect butt shot; a plastic surgeon biz to increase breast size without some big breasts pic or at least a sexy cleavage.

And about 13 y.o. kids, they are going to get aroused with an isolated shot of female underware (I know because I was like that at that age; its the novelty thing) so how decent or undecent, tasteful or untasteful an image is, is totally unconnected to the fact that teenagers are going to be drawn to them, it's their nature.

Scratching my head and wondering what you expected to see returened on a search for nudes? :-D

However the statement is probably the key to the matter - offensive (i.e. whatever someone considers offensive) material isn't really going to show up unless you look for it.

I haven't uploaded any nudes but I do find this concept interesting and I too wonder at times who buys them. But if there is a filter added that says "Nudity" or "Adult Content" or even "User Filtered", the Saudi firewalls will block me from this site and I would have no access to get back, even to close my account, unless I went to another country and logged in. That would be BAD!!!!

Please keep those of us who are subject to stringent country firewalls in mind. :)

I just discovered this side of DT last week when I searched for the color "black" and it came up with an image of a nude woman "loving herself." Apart from my personal distaste for images that veer towards soft porn to that extent, I access the site at work, and if my colleagues happened to see this image on my screen it could have serious repercussions for me.

Now I've seen how easy it is to inadvertently access this stuff, I don't feel comfortable recommending DT to potential clients any more. I'm also questioning my own participation in a site that has these kinds of images on it.

If you turn your content filter ON (which is it's default setting) such images won't appear in your searches. You have to turn the content filter off in order to see them.
There may be the odd mistake of an editor missing the tick box for content filter but that happens rarely.

Thanks for the info. I thought I knew my way round DT pretty well, but I only just found the Content Filter. It was set to Off, so for some reason Off seems to have been the default setting for my page. Happy to know this feature exists.
