Hello.
You have great photos in your portfolio. What i think you might do is take photos of other subjects, like landscapes, wildlife, still life, etc.
If you are so able to take good photos to people, i believe you'll have no problem in taking photos to other subjects.
For instance, i do not have (yet) a single photo with people, but i will have to do that, someday.
Antoher thing. Try different expressions, with your models. Not just joy, or positivism.
You are talented. Go for it.
Hope i helped. |

Hi Mscates176
You got some good pictures in your portfolio, but !!!!!!!!
Many pictures have no meaning, like this strip cheese picture. Of course, the images must be technically good, and they are but try to shot pictures with a useful content. Don´t use always white background, try to find the right one, it´s hard but it can help´s .
an example !!!
The nice guy in the follow picture ( working man)
He is on white background. Why don´t let him dance on a table with few girls have fun ( dancing or some. else) in the background. He could also keep the helmet ;-)
Try to find a story between fore and background
We are on the same way ;-)
Good luck and all best for your future
Alis

Thanks for both of your advice. That is really helpful. I shoot people as you can get a model in for a couple of hours and get lots of shots. I use white backing as its quick and easy. I do plan to use real backings next year to more photos in context but as I shoot in my lounge I need to set up some proper backings to shoot against.
I take both of your points on board about different expressions and about having a real background as opposed to an isolated background. |

Not sure I am best placed to offer any thoughts but I took a look through your portfolio and you images are well lit and well composed, but from my point of view you are wading into a massively saturated market with people isolated against white.
I do not buy many pictures on here and what I do buy I tend to buy at the lower end of the market with the credits I get from submitting blogs. No matter what search term I put in if I float around the database for images with fewer sales I am awash with isolated people (and other isolated stuff) images...
Good Luck, try changing it up a little it is evident you know how to use a camera :D |

I think you're off to a very good start for two reasons: (1) You are isolating images and (2) You are attempting to do concepts.
You don't always want to isolate but it's good you are learning how to do that.
As for concepts, I would suggest tightening them up. For example, one image is titled MALE OFFICE WORKER but the model is half undressed. I don't think people searching for OFFICE WORKER are looking for people who are not dressed professionally.
There are many images where you do this, the model is supposed to be some type of worker but the model is stripped and sexy looking. Modeling is not about being half naked but presenting a concept. If the concept is supposed to emulate some type of sexuality, then go with it. If you want to create business, office, and working class concepts, then make them business, office, and working class concepts. There is nothing wrong with doing both; do the sexy model stuff but then button up the shirt and tuck the tales in the pants for business concepts. There is one image, WORKMAN IN HIS UNDERWEAR, that is fine, it's just what it is. But like I said, modeling is NOT always about getting half undressed.
Think in terms of this: When you look at an image for a magazine advertisement or an online ad, does the image grab your attention? Does it communicate the desired concept?
For the most part, I think you should redo a lot of your keywords. OFFICE WORKER should be HANDSOME SEXY YOUNG MALE. When a Buyer searches on OFFICE WORKER, do you really think he wants a young man half undressed? In other words, make the image fit the keywords.
A lot of your images are upper torsos with the model looking at the camera. It wouldn't hurt to have full body shots and action shots, like the boxer actually boxing with an off-camera opponent. But... if you're using yourself as a model, it's difficult to do full body shots.
Keep it up with the concepts. |

Thank you both for your ideas, I do agree with doing more real life shots. I might try to rent a few venues where I can take my models and equipment and shoot. I take your point about the keywords and ill look at that image later as Im off to work shortly. The idea of some of the nudity was to cater for calendars etc and also to add variety to portfolio. Although a lot of the nudity I have cut out now. The full body shots I avoided due to trying to get lighting correct. Working in a lounge with basic lighting setup isnt easy as Im sure u can imagine along with restricted room for going backwards.
I think I know now how to progress avoid isolates and do more real life stuff. Thanks again. |
