I may be sticking my neck out here but I just got back from an east coast USA trip where I took numerous shots of iconic places in DC, Jamestown, ********sburg, and Williamsburg. 72% got rejected for either being too generic or technical reasons. The ones that were accepted already have sales. (Same camera, same lens so I don't get the technical part.)
I can't help but wonder if the editors don't "get" what might be an important as an American image, as they are European.
Anybody else experience this? I hate to have such a crappy approval rating when I know they were good, important images.

Iconic images are also popular in the sense that many people take photos of them. Word of advice: before uploading images of landmarks, travel destinations, historical icons, etc, search the Dreamstime database for that subject. Better yet, search for the subject before you go on the trip so you can see what is already online. They will not accept multiple images from different users of the same landmark from the same perspective because it is redundant.

Hi Mlhead, sometimes the technical reasons are not exactly what you think they are, for instance, I had several composition problems before I started fixing vertical lines, you have allways to check your images at 100% to see if they are flawless and clean of dust spots. Sometimes you need to sharpen it a bit or use a noise cleaning software.

Whenever you have a rejection you dont understand, write to support and they will help with that, is the best way to go and learn a bit on the process.

I´ve heard this more than once, the reviewers dont want to reject good images, if there are too many images on the database of the subject you are uploading the rejection will tell you that, if thats not the case, either its a technical reason or a too generic might be that your description is not accurate or good enough, like, "nice house at the beach" or something like that, you got the idea, right?

Hi Mlhead, I will give a fast analysis on one of your images

   Pennsylvania Monument

This is a very good image, the blue of the sky is great contrasting with the white monument.

What I didnt like is the title, Pennsylvania Monument is really too generic.

The description helps a bit, but not much, "Pennsylvania Monument at ********sburg battlefield in Pennsylvania"

I did some research on the web and the monument is described as the State of Pennsylvania Monument (some sites including wikipedia call it memorial), your image shows the frieze of infantry and the statues of Majors John Reynolds and George Meade, all of that you should put on the description and use as keywords.
Here is the link where I took this information from, but you should gather this information on site when you are visiting, just take a low resolution picture of the description plaque (there is usually one there), this will help you later.

With all that info the editor will know its an american landmark and that it does have sales potential, otherwise its just a monument in Pennsylvania

On the technical side one thing I would do is to correct the verticals which would be quite easy on this image. Also I see no need to close down to f13, you could have taken it with f8, the sharpness would be much better with no refraction.

Best luck with your next uploads and aprovals!
