Some of these big sellers have a lot of forum posts, and some have no forum posts!!!I still can`t totally shake the connection between posts and sales (LOL). So I post because it`s fun to share info with this amazing community and I have learned so much from the photographers here. And who knows, maybe I`ll get a sale from this :-)

I've tried doing that and also notice that too. Maybe the other photographers promote their content in another site.

It can also work the other way. If you specialize in one sort of photography then you are more likely to be bookmarked by a buyer that uses a lot of people photos. Yuri is proof of this.

The large search engine´s algorithm is based on how many links you have to a page, so yes, FB enhances your positioning on them, but also tweeting.

I was using a link to DT on the social media, but I changed strategy lately, I am posting old images that had no downloads with my watermark, a medium resolution like 1000x1500, I tell a little story about it and do a collection, than I post the link to my collection and to my portfolio. For example, I did that for Capri Island and did a collection to my Capri images here.

I was doing this in Google+ and Facebook, now I just realized that you cant block anyone to download your images in FB, so I decided I will post the links to the latest uploads in FB and keep my strategy in Google+.

Its a bit like giving away an image in the free section, but I am actually not giving anybody any copyrights on them, so if I want to scrutinize the internet, I can because nobody is allowed to use those images, specially with the watermark.

I am doing also some posts with images I took with my iphone, I dont think those would sell here, neither be aproved, so its more like something interesting I found on the road, they are sometimes quite popular, and, of course, I link to my portfolio.

The Posts are fun to do and I have a lot of interaction in Google+ where I have now 1830 followers, in FB I have almost no interaction, so I will just use the promo tool linking to my latest uploads there and thats it.

Besides that, I can direct the posts better on Google+, I have a circle of possible buyers of my images (travel magazine editors, designers, etc.), so its more focused, and of course, photographers, who interact with me sharing info, travelers, whose tips are also important and interesting and some others I call photo lovers, people who just like to see and comment.

Its more like a promotion of my name as a photographer than directly linking to sell, I know that, but it seems to be working, I am having more and more, high earnings sales who might be coming through my links on the posts, I dont know, September has been a specially good month for me, at least up til now.

Cheers.

Yes, it's true, but it will only improve your Facebook placement in searches. People still have to click their way through to here and are they really going to come here if you're promoting pictures of tomatoes? I have yet to see a portfolio with a bump in views (let alone sales) because of time they spend with social media.

Afagundes is figuring it out. Promote the PHOTOGRAPHER and what your passions are. No one on the internet is going to follow you for taking pictures of tomatoes.

Also notice that I tend to get little spurts of sales when I come into the message boards. Not sure what (if any) link there is though.

That's why I only promote really good shots. The bad part is most of my "interesting" photos are not fit for stock. So I place them on a photos-only blog (which is what I'm currently working on). And hopefully, when I get a large amount of pictures there, it might help promoting my portfolio here.

Yes, I do think posting on message boards helps with sales. When you post people will look at your portfolio. When your photos are reviewed they may get a better placement. So please look at my photos..thanks,

Look to my blog http://alveraphoto.blogspot.ro/. I use the code provided by DT in Tools page. When someone click on blog image is redirected to the image from DT and also I have the chance to get a new referral.
BTW, I have this blog for about one year. I post about 20-30/month. My sales are at the same level, I can not say that this blog helped me :(

Looking at the amount of sales I have had the last two months in relation to my activity on the board it does appear to help drive people to your PF.

I am sure it helps.

I think the fewer your sales, the more posting on the boards will help. But given the small number of buyers that seem to participate in the message boards and blogs, and the fact that the buyer would have to have a need to buy your image in the first place, I still think producing stock photos is a much better way to spend your time :)

That is another way to look at things - are you more efficient at promoting your portfolio on social media, or producing new content? I think for most people putting up another 100 images would help a lot more than Facebook posting.

This is an interesting topic. I get quite a few hits per day on the photographs on my Flickr page. (My top photos had >6000 hits already.) Some of these photos are sold here (in all these cases I make only a low-res version available on Flickr, with my full copyright). It sounds like a good idea to put a direct link to my dreamstime portfolio from each of these Flickr photos. But would it be acceptable practice? Or will I break some dreamstime rules by doing that, or even just by posting the photos I'm selling here on my Flickr page?

I used to have links to Dreamstime from my Flickr account but about a year ago Flickr blocked the links. They also started removing other peoples links to other stock sites. This may have something to do with the fact that they then went into partnership with a major stock site beginning with G! I still mention on Flickr that I have a Dreamstime account and that if anyone would like to purchase any of my images then they need to come here!
