I've been questioning whether to switch from CS3 to PS6 on cloud.
I see that it's only $20.00 a month and I'm wondering if you think the upgrade is worth it?

I usually say that an upgrade to the latest version (hardware or software) doesn't make much difference, but in your case, a step from 3 to 6 might be useful. There are lots of new useful features in CS5, so I can assume the CS6 it's even better.

Quite agree with you. It makes no sense to upgrade sonething just to upgrade it. One should REALLY need new features, first of all. And know what one is going to do with then. Otherwise it's just wasting of time.

I took advantage of the offer from Adobe (19.99 a month for a year) and it gives me access to several programs that I didn't have. I downloaded Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC and a couple of others.

Adobe rumors suggest that future versions of Adobe products will be completely online. I just uploaded my first photograph edited in Photoshop CC, so will see if it is accepted.

I have never been sorry for upgrading to CS6, for those who might be considering it. (The upgrade still seems to be available for those who don't want to be committed to a monthly subscription with Photoshop CC. Who knows how long that will last?)

Yes, but to my understanding that's only if you already have CS3 or newer. Good deal though imo, especially since you also get Bridge.

I upgraded from CS3 to CS6 prior to the CC. I can say it was well worth the upgrade due to all the new features.

I have not switched to the CC since I have LR5 and Photoshop CS6, no sense in paying $x/month for it if I don't have to. I may have to eventually switch, but in the mean time, I will continue to work with what I have.

I thought about it, but I don't have the correct OS. CC only operates on Windows 7 or higher. (Don't know Mac specs) I have PS CS6, don't know if CS3 would be worth it. Either way, the whole thing seems like a pretty good deal since they change everything each year or so. You would get the upgrades automatically without paying out the wazoo!!!

@Cjmgrafx, how do you like LR5? I toy around with the idea of upgrading from LR4, but don't know if it is worth the investment.

I'm using CS5 and have an opportunity to upgrade at a lower cost. I'm used to the old days where you purchase a DVD with the software and you're set for as long as you want to keep running that version.

However, with the new business model, you have to subscribe and pay a monthly fee. If I were earning more I probably could justify the cost. Regardless, this is probably the future of software.

With the subscription, I like the idea of having access to virtually the complete line of Adobe products but I don't have time to learn them all. Either way, I can't run CS5 forever.

Just wondering what other people think.

Further to Brads earlier post, I have just noticed that Adobe are now offering Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for $9.99 per month even if you have never owned any previous versions of either piece of software.

It is my understanding that you have to sign up for 12 months.

I notice us Brits have to pay £8.76 per month.

The offer is open until 2nd December...................

Re Luvemak post -

I absolutely love Lightroom since having tried it from version 4. I have upgraded to LR5 and find the much enhanced healing brush worth the upgrade alone. I now do 99% of all my work in LR and rarely ever need to go over to Photoshop.

Incidentally, I've been following forums on the Adobe website and some posts made by Adobe staff seem to indicate that Adobe have no intention in the future of forcing us to rent LR on a subscription basis. Whether this is actually true or not remains to be seen of course but I really hope this is the case.

I should take back the 'forever' part. Somehow it all read that way back when they announced it, but I see in the terms that the renewal after a year is at 'current' pricing. Somehow I interpreted this statement to be a longer term commitment: "To be clear, $9.99 is not an introductory price. It is the price for those of you who sign up by December 31, 2013." (their italics)

Yep! I agree with the other guys here. There are options in CS6 that are useful specially in photo editing and manipulation. I use CS6 and I think it's worth it!
