I suppose what you mean is RSI?
Have you ever tried to work with a trackball mouse?
A drawing tablet perhaps?
When searching: Thumb Mouse or Ring Mouse with Google you can also find different solutions.

Personally I work a lot with the computer and what I do is at the first sign of pain is:
-Have a break immidiately
- Change my working position (chair, table, position of monitor, position of keyboard and mouse).
-Try to find a position for your arm and hand that is total relaxing when not active.

And be aware to hold arm and hand relaxed when not active!
Often I find myself holding minimal tension on arm and hand muscles holding the mouse when reading a page, scrolling down or something. Wrong way to concentrate!
It is very important to listen to your body and try to prevent. Don’t ever ignore pain with RSI!
Otherwise it will come back again and again.
Perhaps you’ve tried all this already. Hopefully you find a solution that works for you!
Sorry for my bad English!

Ken - Try buying a wrist brace (any pharmacy will have them) that restricts your range of motion. Helps heal and prevent future strain. Hope that help, K-

Try yoga, or you can hire someone to do the editing if you cannot. Take care of yourself in all ways, that includes food and getting enough rest! Good luck in healing!

I switched over to an apple magic trackpad instead of a mouse, not perfect for fine control work on photoshop, but it allows me to rest me hand on the desk and just use finger movement to do control the cursor.

I thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I have purchased a trackball mouse and will try a wristbrace. I also had two cold laser therepy sessions and that has helped. I wonder what problems people are going to develope with their thumbs from all the texting....
