I'm afraid that customers will lower the level and will download only free images. I bet that in a couple of years stock business will disappear.

I don't agree with that. Humanbeings never lower the quality expectancy, so they will never go totally for free images. Stock industry will probably live forever, but it will change it's skin, from 2D to 3D sooner or later.

ahem, quality expectations are already lower. so many businesses shoot their own pics now on their cheap p&s cameras, instead of paying for quality. they genuinely can't see much difference.

As I can see on stockfreeimages, a huge number of free photos are BETTER than my photos for sale! :))

Pat on the back doesn't pay for time, effort and equipment.

Let's consider that more and more demand is for smaller, web sized images as more printed material goes digital.

Magazines are going web only. Books are going digital. What a boom time for publishers when they can get all the images they need for free!

Just wondering if anyone has earned any money through this scheme? I've over 600 downloads from free images but not a cent yet.

Where did you find download counts for your free images? I'm curious now.

I see a huge change in sales. All of those free images is really hurting this business. I now make more money on some of the other less known sites. This is sad.

I uploaded a photo and clicked the

option. It didn't go to the pending section and I haven't seen it since. Do they get reviewed immediately and go straight to the free section?

Brettosman: click onto your uploaded files and it shows you how many downloads and views per image including any free ones, then you count them. :)

There is a tab in Management >My Earnings>Free Images Earnings tab (last tab on right)
This page lists all sales made for images donated after 4 years of no sales or images that fail review but meet some minimum requirements for the free section. These images are currently featured on Stockfreeimages.com.

I imagine DT makes money from advertising on the free pages. I guess the contributors are paid a few pennies per download.
I suggest that contributors not participate in this further erosion of earnings for artists at all. Giving away images is degrading for and hurts all contributors.
Fellow contributors: please remove all your images from the free section.
Thanks for considering this.

Snille said," Giving away images is degrading for and hurts all contributors."

I agree 100%. My free images earning tab says "No Earnings" Because I refuse to and don't believe that it helps our business in any way. One free image a week, maybe. But hundreds of thousands of free images???? Common sense says, if you can't find a usable image among that many free images, you are never going to find one. Someone said ,(earlier in this thread), "Human Beings never lower the quality expectancy, so they will never go totally for free images." Believe me, they will, they do and it is starting to show in the decreased sales.

Some of the images in the free section are amazing. Just look at the number of downloads on some of them. I have been a contributor here since 2008. My sales rose steadily for the first three years. Then things started changing. After that, they steadily decreased because of price and commission changes and additions to the free section. I would like contributors to ask themselves something, especially those who contribute to multiple sites, if an image is accepted at other sites and refused here, why would you offer it up here for free? I think one solution might be, if an image in the free section is downloaded more than 3 times in a given period of time, it should automatically go back into the pay per download list of images for sale. Because, there is obviously a demand for such image. Micostock began as amazing business profile that made it possible for the ordinary person starting a new business or an established corporation to use quality images for their websites and advertisements at a very reasonable price. Now, I'm not sure if it even has much of a future because of all the ways that people can now download any image they want for free.
