I finally broke down and bought a (very) cheap graphics tablet. I'm kicking myself for not getting one sooner!!! I've been starting to do illustrations in PS and the mouse is so limiting. The tablet makes it super simple and just like drawing. LOVE IT!! If you don't have one, you should consider it. Mine was only $50 from a popular online retailer!!!

I've bought one too some months ago, but was so used to draw (and adjust handles) with the mouse that I left it aside, but intend to use it soon.

Doing illustrations seems to be a good area for money making but unfortunately that is not my expertise (not even a little bit), so I will be better off sticking to photography and leaving that to people like you that know what you're doing ! I was not aware that you could even get a cheap graphics tablet for 50 bucks though.... i thought they were much more.

Mudplucker, I so do not know what I'm doing! I'm just starting to fool around with illustrations. I do enjoy it though, which helps when I'm watching boring tutorials!

Yes, it might only last a few years, but is a large tablet and got great reviews. (Don't know if I'm allowed to say, but Monoprice...)

It is also saving my wrists!!!

Here is the link:

Mine is the 10x6.25 inch one w/o hotkeys on side.

Pressure sensitive? Seems to be, although this is my first one so I have nothing to compare it to. I had to go on the reviews. I did not want to pay hundreds for the other popular brand, so gave it a try with this one.

Mine is a Silver Crest bought on german supermaket retailer LIDL. It is sold as a seasonal product, meaning it appears 1 week per year.
It is pressure sensitive (1024).
The price last year was a little more than 60 Eur.
Review here.

Alvera, I had no problems, but apparently there is a problem with their instructions. I loaded the software prior to plugging the device into the USB port and had no issues at all. I hear that some of the included software (digital signature) doesn't work with Windows 8, I believe. None of this was a problem for me since I still suffer from having a Vista OS. ;(

Yes, the one Luvemak bought is pressure sensitive for those asking:

From the specs page:
Active drawing area: 10 inches x 6.25 inches.
Overall Dimensions: 12x14.5
Resolution (LPI): 4000
Report rate speed (RPS): 200
Pressure sensitivity: 1024

I have one of the very first Wacom tablets still. Unfortunately it uses a serial port to connect to the computer and new computers don't have one... and it was only a 4x5 and way too small to do much.

I'm curious as to how well this one works vs a medium Intous pro. The Intous pro has double the sensitivity (2048), so anybody that has tried 1024 vs. 2048 for photo editing, is that worth the extra money?

I used a Wacom Graphire 2 at my last job, I was thinking it was 1024 sensitivity and I remembered it wasn't sensitive enough for me.

I just pulled up the specs on it and it was only 512, so I may just drop the $50 on one of these and see if it works for my needs.
