I have put a couple of times keywords to some pictures from this site, but I never got the money, or a response from DT if they are or not accepted. I really don`t know how this thing works :P

How does an image qualify for the "Contribute now" keywording section? Are all the images there just randomly chosen from the database? Or they should have no more than 10-15 original keywords?

When I click on the photo after clicking on "contribute now" I get the download and tools boxes, not a link anywhere that says "add keywords". So, I sent some via the "comment" and "admin" boxes for one image I really liked that got me thinking of many ways to use it.

I'm a writer as well as a photographer, so I like the idea of helping out. Can you please give more detailed directions for what to do after hitting "Contribute now" as I'm not sure that was the correct way to do it-or confirm that I should use either the comment or the admin box.

Thanks.

EDIT: I realized that you don't hit "tools" but have to hit the "download" tab to find the suggestion box. I hit "tools" before scrolling down enough under the keywords and didn't think to hit the "download" tab to go back. Because of that, each time I clicked on a photo it would then open with the "tools" tab and I couldn't find the keywords. I see some other people used the "comment" box too, so I hope this helps. It's confusing because you'd expect the "suggest keywords" to be under the tools tab. Maybe you should add a second "suggest" tab there?

So, please disregard my comments on file #843677 as I have now suggested keywords the proper way. What a cute photo!

Apologies if this has already been covered, there are already a lot of replies on this, but this is another question about why a minimum of 10 new words.

The reason for think a lower limit could be a good idea is for an image that is already fairly well described, but that the photographer has missed one possible use of the image - this means 2-3 keywords could be missing that could increase sales, but because all other angles are so well covered nobody is liklely to come up with 10 more without getting so desperate that all the sugestions get rejected.

My approach to keywording an image is not to strain and struggle to come up with words that will make it unique from similar images. My approach is to come up with 15 to twenty accurate, well thought-out, relevant words that describe exactly what is visible in the image, even if there are many similar images that have similar keywords.

The idea is to provide the buyer with a choice of similar images that meet their criteria and let the image be selected according to the visual needs of the buyer. Unique, obscure keywords, even if relevant, will rarely lead to a download. However, simple, common, everyday keywords and a good, uncluttered, visual execution of the image will be the most successful in the long run.

Giving all the words related to the item in the picture, increases the chance of being found when searched for.

Fo example in this picture of Spur Gears I found that two critical words were missing. I wrote to him and gave the suggestion.

He wrote back saying "Thanks for commenting Joezachs. I don't know the relationship of SPUR or SPLINE to cogs and gears. Please enlighten me"

So I replied again saying “What you see in the ID (Inside Diameter) are splines. These lock into a spline shaft when a spline shaft is inserted into the ID. That is how a drive is transferred from a gear to a shaft.

The Gear Tooth that you see here is a Spur Gear. (There are many forms like Helical Gear, Bevel gear etc)

So as Spur and Spline can be seen in your picture, anyone who searches for these two items, may pick up your picture

Lets see if he adds them (and gets lucky too)

I think the words such as "spur" and "spline" are fine as keywords for the image of interlocking gears show above. (I used interlocking because that has thus far NOT been added to the image but could be...!).

However, my point is that, over time, there will be many more downloads on simple, common words such as "gears", "machinery", "mechanical" than more technical terms. I could be wrong but my guess is there will never be download based on the search word, "spline". At least I wouldn't lose sleep if it wasn't included... :)

Well, I just suggested 11 keywords for a picture.

Interesting program.

I hope the suggested keywords help sell the picture.

Do I have to write also the words already related to the photo, or only my suggested ones?

Thanks for your help.
