I have a question about this .......
Since it's not the prices that are going up but rather sizes and levels changing, are old credits going to count towards this new structure of sizes/levels or do old credits stay with the old DT image structure? |

I'm going to contribute my two cents in the 8-10MP thing. Seriously...higher MP deserves more money. I will give them that.
but 8MP is professional enough. i work in the fashion business and a lot of photographers have Canon 20D.. it's not right for a point and shoot camera from Sony to get more money than 20D with an L lens. sorry but it's not right |

I just bit the bullet and bought a D2Xs. No more 8 or 10 MP debate for me... it's 12.4 MP now! :-)
On a serious note, I would like to know about subscription pricing: I hope that for $0.25 downloads, we can cap the image size at 4MP or 6MP. If someone wants 12MP for a cover or full page spread, splurging and spending $5 or so seems reasonable. |

i looked through this thread but did not find this answered. this has been a camera debate for the most part. how do illustrations play into the pricing structure. i know this is probably a simple answer or easy to find but i will ask forgiveness for ignorance now. too many people in my family sick and very sick so i am tired. anybody who can point me to the answer i would appreciate it. |

As far as I can tell, there is no difference between photographs and illustrations. I'm making mine big enough to be available at all sizes.

The new pricing will be launched next week in order to avoid any glitches during weekend. The decision regarding the minimum resolution was made based on what was said so far AND what we already have in the database. It would be unwise to design it based on the future submissions solely when we already have such a big database, with most images shot with cameras that were for a while on the market. Consequently, the maximum size will be set to 8 MP.

Maybe it would be good to make put this also in the news and announcement, I mean if you have final date and sizes.

Given that some digital cameras are advertised at 8MP although their real max resolution is slightly under that value, maximum resolution will begin at a set 7.90MP (inclusive.) |

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere.
When the new pricing structure is brought in next week, what is going to happen to assignment images under the "escalate" option? Under the current scheme, an image escalated to level 2 gives effectively 3x earnings compared to level 1 regardless of size. Under the new pricing structure, there is no scope for this increase in earnings for large or maximum size images, even if escalated to level 5.

The assignment files will be escalated to level 4, just as the assignment files already on the site will go into that category. The price will be the same for all assignment files on the site that fall in the same level boundaries.

Sadly, no. But, I am taking it one month at a time!!! :)
On a side note, just now having seen what Linda wrote almost a month ago, I am sorry if that "insult" applied to you (I didn't mean it as an insult, just an observation of actions and words), but I will try one more time to emphasize that the pricing plan is based on supply AND demand. For that reason it makes NO sense to exclude 8mp images from XL size limits. I was submitting images taken with a Kodak P880 (8mp) camera, which is barely above a p&s quality image because of the glass, sensor, and processor quality. It takes ALL three and fortunately the reviewers are doing a great job keeping the database stocked with only the best images. There are very few, if any, images that are being accepted from these cameras. They just can't keep up with the quality of the Canon and Nikon DSLR's. AND even if they are, buyers can look at the EXIF data that tells them what camera took the image. If they are THAT concerned that DT isn't screening the images hard enough, they can choose their own images based on equipment.
My point is this: Limiting the size so that only a select few contributurs who have spent an immense amount of money on their equipment can qualify for that price doesn't mean MORE money for those contributurs, it ONLY means LESS money for those contributing at between 8mp and 10 or 12mp range. It is straight loss and nothing else. I didn't think it took a degree in International Business, Management, and Marketing to understand this principle, but I guess I was wrong. |
