We are not re-hashing the lock in subject here ... DT came up with a workable solution to that problem that we all went along with months ago. What we disagree with is being locked in automatically to radical changes in the contract.
Yes, I have been here long enough to trust DT, but thats not the point. The point is we all agreed to a 6 month lock under the terms of the old contract. That cannot justifiably be transfered to a radically new contract without mutual consent; regardless of how good or bad the changes are. Even the credit card companies avoid such changes; as in the clause use of your card after x-date constitutes agreement to the changes. DT should do the same; uploading after X-Date constitutes agreement. Then, if the contributor doesn't agree or upload new - allow him/her to close account or continue to pay him/her under old contract for the 6 month period(either way - better or worse $). That way DT is living up to its commitment to us, and we are doing the same for DT.
Even being of the opinion that the changes are in my benefit, the fact that DT is strong-arming this change without releasing disgruntled contributors from the lock is somewhat eroding the trust that I have in DT. No, I do not want to leave ... but the situation is leaving me nervous about what COULD happen in the future - again not that I think DT would actually do anything it believes to be harmful to it's contributors.

The terms and conditions you have agreed with did not change. You still receive 50% of the sale price or 60% in the exclusive photographer case. Check the bonus for each package and you will see the commission is above that and the agency supports it without even mentioning that in the terms.
What lowered for subscription was the commission percentage. It was a maximum of 100% before, now it is less but still way over 50%.
Same approach applies for the increase of credits, don't think about the royalties themselves, think about the comission percentage. What would have been unfair, for example, was to increase the price of the credit-based license by 3-4 times and increase your royalties by only 2 times, lowering the commission percentage under 50%. |
