The statement about quality was not targeted specifically to you. It was a generic reply to the "my sales go down, help me" threads.
I did a search in your portfolio after car. Except for the photo above, I don't see any irrelevant results. There are 17 results, all of them being very accurate for car. |

The site is growing sometimes higher in the number of designers, sometimes higher in the number of images. Some seasons are better for shooting images than for downloading images. That's why they call them seasonal trends.
All users with significant portfolios receive a steady number of sales. Most are growing, some are decreasing, as mentioned in my previous posts.
There are lots of things one should do before complaining about not having sales. |

Featured photographer between April 23, 2007 and April 30, 2007. I supposed that being featured should make sells grow. Can anybody explain me why sells dropped after been featured? Notice that in May I added 60 new pictures.
I’m not complaining, just trying to understand. Tank you for your opinion.

Usually an image starts selling somewhere between 1 and 3 months, in which time it probably won't make any money, it will get some views and designers would gain interest in it.
Look at your upload chart and at your downloads chart and you will see that sales come after 1-3 months since a large batch of images was uploaded.
Images are added to the site daily, thousands of images each week renew the database.
There is no secret that the most downloaded images are business oriented and that portfolios that contain such images have better chances of success.
There are many photographers here who's sales increased in the last 6 months.
There are many photographers who have steady sales over the past 6 months.
There are photographers who experienced a decrease in sales and those photographers should start looking in their portfolio and think about what they could do to increase their sales. The agency can not change ones portfolio or bring the designers' attention more on a portfolio than on another because it would not be fair to the rest of its users.
The agency's job is to ensure a market for your images to gain exposure. If you want a metaphor, we are the bazaar you are the ones who sell.
Not all images can do equally well and that also applies to photographers. It all depends on the subjects you shoot, how well you shoot them, the ideas and last but not least how you keywords your images, how accurate your entry is in the database.

I'm sure i can improve on the quality of my pictures, i'm sure i need a bigger portfolio and i'm sure i need more stockworthy pictures to get more downloads, but i WAS getting some downloads until mai.
So while i was learning and progressing there was still a little reward, thats gone now.
I think that is the extend of my "whining" and most other complaints of low dl's

Well, unfortunately people who got bigger downloads or same amount of downloads are not posting in this thread, but I can assure you that there are such people. With the new search engine (although it's not perfect) images get a fair chance of being discovered.
I for one go on a steady download route, but try to add new images to my portfolio all the time and most important, add what sells.

A suggestion...
As every now and then somebody expresses his worry as the downloads numbers are falling while others are bragging about their increase... maybe the total number of downloads should be public on the stats page along with the number of uploaded pictures. This could prove to the less optimistic ones that the industry's engine is still working and make them understand what the seasonal trends are.
... could also boost up the confidence of all the users as it will be another proof of the transparency of Dreamstime style of business.
Greeting,
Bogdan |

I can say that my May sales are less than my April sales, but still greater than my March sales.
I had the thought that the number of downloads by students has likely rapidly decreased. Many colleges here in the States are just finishing up. Graphics students turned their projects in a couple weeks ago. My thought was that the high April sales were a result of these students purchasing images for these final projects. Now that they are complete and students are on a summer break, there are far less student downloads.
I can only speak of students in the US. Do students have similar schedules in Europe and elsewhere? |

Hi there
I notice the same trend with my downloads?! It's been at least 4-5 days without any action what so ever and at this point I am kind a curious what might be the reason for this. I am not a contributor with hundreds of files in my portfolio but at least I had few downloads per day ….

It's been a 3 day holiday weekend in the Usa and many european countries which will account for low downloads over the last few days.
In defense of Dt (and not to brag as stated in a post above) downloads are definitely not down for me and I am about to have my BME. :) |

Jesus!
I wish i had the the dismal downloads of 25ish a month that some of you guys are complaining about.
I'm lucky if i get 1 or 2 downloads a week.
Guess we all just have to be a bit more patient and submit a lot better? |

Just wanted to toss in my 2 cents.
I am very happy with my sales here at Dreamstime. I have seen steady increases over the past two years since joining and last few months are no exception. This month looks like it will be about equal to April if the next couple of days stay steady with recent trends.
Of course the 3 day weekend meant lower sales for Monday, and with much of the world heading into summer, we can all expect sales to be a bit soft in June and July. I have been contributing here and other micros for just over two years and the summer is always a slow time because buyers are taking holidays and maybe not working all that hard.
If it's any comfort, my sales at all sites are not booming, but they are steady and if I manage to hold steady through the summer that is just fine with me. Boom times will return in the Autumn.
Meanwhile this is a great time to work on new concepts and uploading fresh images. |
