You can also submit images from old events, especially if they happen on a regular basis and the images include famous people (VIPs).

I agree - I just had a bunch reviewed very quickly...and I have many more to go. Enough to keep me out of trouble this week :-)

Is there a fee for uploading editorial images? I just had a few approved and $10 has been deducted from my earnings.

Anybody else lose earnings lately?

I lost my earnings too. I think, that there has been an error, ane every editorial images received $5. Only News related images receive $5, so now DT correct that.
Someone decides which image is news related, and I think that a photographer should do that as it used to be before. Don't you think?

Regarding the earnings that have been removed from your accounts, we apologize for the misunderstandings and confusions created. There was a technical glitch over the week-end which we were now able to solve.
Unfortunately, all approved editorial submissions received a 5$ bonus. However, this bonus is designed for editorial submissions that are also selected to be featured in "In the News" section. The "In the News" includes the best editorial images covering the most recent events. These images, once accepted in section, receive a 5 $ bonus as reward. Note that not all approved editorial submissions are to appear in the "In the News" section and therefore not all of them receive the 5 $ bonus.

As explained, we had a technical glitch and all approved submissions received the bonus although they were not supposed to. And, as of this morning, we started correcting the error. This is why the money was removed from your account. We sent e-mails announcing all photographers of this fact this afternoon.

If you have other questions, please address them to support and we will be happy to provide clarifications.

Thank you for understanding and we apologize again.

Someone please correct this in my account as I've had no response to my email response to the deduction from my earnings.

Does the image reviewer decide on whether an image goes into 'In the News' or not then?

And are contributers notified whether the editorial image has gone into 'In the News' or not?

The editor decides what images will enter "In The News" section. Photographers are not notified if a specific image goes to this section, you can check them (enter the "In The News" archive) after you receive the approved/refused email notification.

this is so much better. i have thousands of sports images especially motorsport and no way i would remove the copyrighted items/sponsor's logo.

anyway, does DT accept sports images such as Formula 1 and MotoGP?

Hello, I am clear on what is Royalty Free, but honestly the concepts of Rights Managed (sometimes also referred to as Licensed Managed) and Editorial are a little bit confusing to me. Is it correct to think of Editorial as a form of rights-managed license ? What exactly are the differences between RF, RM/LM and RM/LM Editorial ?

Here you have many pictures that have been or would be rejected as RF (for different reasons that many of you will clearly relate to, but please do not pay attention to the quality of the pictures as this is to serve as an example). However, while I understand the reason why these pictures can not be licensed as RF I still am not clear which ones can be licensed as Editorial and which ones would have to be licensed as Licensed/Rights managed.

And in order to illustrate your answer to the questions above maybe you can evaluate the following pictures and let us know which ones can be sold as Editorial and which ones can not, but could be licensed as Rights/Licensed Managed (and why):

I believe this will surely help the majority of us who have been learning what not to sell as RF, but know little about Editorial and RM/LM. This will for sure help to guide us all on white kind of images to upload or not under this new fantastic door you opened for Editorial licenses.

Thank you all !
Regards,
Celso.

Hi there! Great news about the editorial section!

But, a question; I uploaded a few last monday, I thought they might be good for the news, but the news is not really news anymore by now... how long is the pending list of this editorial files?

Celso, each agency may have its own perspective about the specifics of a license, no matter how it's called (RF, RM, etc). The licenses having same name with various agencies may not assure that the rules are identical, it's just a system used to show similarities. The PLUS coalition that tries nowadays to unite all these rules into an industry-accepted unique license system is obviously facing a huge challenge and they are to be admired for trying to do it.

I cannot answer your question, not only because I can't see the images, but because the editor who reviews them is the best person to do it.

Note that in some cases like shooting on private properties, you will need to do your own investigation whether selling images as editorial will be allowed or not. Copyright lawyers might disagree, however in some cases we would like to be on safe grounds for our photographers. Although the contributor is entirely responsible for what he uploads, we would like to protect them from legal issues that are usually so time consuming. For example, an image shot inside San Diego Zoo will still not be accepted as editorial as we've been notified by them in the past that they want control over their imagery. We may agree or disagree with this rule, but we will respect it.

This was just an example. There may be more that you will find at review time or in the future, as this section will grow. I will discuss this approach again with our copyright lawyers and get back to you if anything changes in our position.
