I'm assuming that you're on a PC since that's what I'm familiar with...

Could it be that the photo you're editing and uploading is in a color space other than SRGB? I've seen things like this happen with photos that are in the Adobe color space. It could also be related to PS being a color managed application and most browsers assume that all jpegs are in SRGB.

This may be a dumb question, but aren't we supposeod to be uploading in RGB instead of sRGB?

RGB is color space, but sRGB is color profile. Don't mix those two things. AdobeRGB is a color profile too, also in RGB color space. You should upload photos in RGB colorspace with sRGB color profile :)

The colour space tells your computer how the colour of each pixel is represented. In the case of RGB, it means that each colour is represented by three numbers, one number is the intensity of the RED component, one number is the intensity of thr GREEN component, the last number is the intensity of the BLUE component.

This is one way to represent colours, the most widely used. There are other ways, for example HSL, where the three numbers represent HUE, SATURATION and LUMINANCE.

The colour profile tells the PC how to treat this three numbers in the RGB colour space once this colour goes to the monitor. Each monitor has a different way to display a colour once it get the three RGB values. If your computer knows what colour profile is closer to your monitor, it can send the correct values so each colour in your image is displayed faithfully. The most widely colour profile used is sRGB.

I simplified this a lot, but hope it helps.

Too kind, but I'm not a photographer :)

I know this stuff from being a game graphics programmer though: working with this weird math is my job. Duh.

Hi,

So from what I understand is that within CS5 ( Edit>color settings) I need to be sure that the Working space is Adobe RGB, and in Edit>assign profile is set to sRGB?

Is this correct?

still confused! lol

Hi Snookless - Yes, the Working space is Adobe RGB and then when you have completed all your adjustments then Edit: convert to profile sRGB. The colour in your photo remains the same.
