Something that would be more useful is a stat on your exposure level based on categories. A % would still show as a very small useless number though. So maybe base the % off of the individual photographers portfolio and not the site as a whole. For example, if a photographer has 100 total uploads -- 50 of people, 25 of nature and 25 business then it would look like this:
Abstract
Animals
Art
Business 25% (25)
Editorial
Illustration
Industries
IT&C
Nature 25% (25)
Objects
People 50% (50)
Technology
Travel
Now when I look at this exposure stats I can find a use for it. It tells me that I am missing out on potential income because I am not being exposed to certain markets. It quickly shows me the percentage of my images that are in each category followed by the exact number of images in parenthesis. The system might look off when people have images that fit in more than 1 category. But even though the total percentages from the list would add up to more than 100%, it would actually be correct because you are theoretically duplicating images by using multiple categories.
What would really make this stat useful is if it had a 3rd field that displayed the percentage of total site sales from each category for the last 30 days. Then I could keep track of buying trends and see where I needed to focus my attention.
If photographers can easily keep track of what is selling then they can produce more images to the current market ... more money for the photographers and more money for the company.
