The woman's rant is exactly why I don't shoot weddings any more. People, particularly if they are advertising on Craigslist, are looking for something for nothing in most cases (if you've ever tried to sell ANYTHING on craigslist for a reasonable price you might know what I'm talking about). I liked Nikon4004's response in that it was realistic in terms of how much time is spent in post processing work. Additionally, if you do the wedding right, you just don't show up the day of the wedding and start shooting away. There is a butt load of planning and set up that goes into the process that requires the photographer to meet before, during and after the shoot to make sure that all the important and not so important events during the day that are desired by the bride and groom, and all their parents and butt-in-ski friends are provided. But the post processing, touchup, color matching, presentation books and CDs if desired take a lot of time and energy (one or two weeks depending upon how many other events you've shot). I say, skimp on the dress and the booze if you want to cut costs. :) What the woman has failed to take into account is that she isn't just paying for a snapshot (you can leave throw away camera's on the tables for that), but rather the experience, expertise and creative artistry of someone who is capable of capturing not only the moment, but also the atmosphere and emotions of the day as well, while maneuvering through a maze of drunken guests, distraught parents, and nervous brides . . .all who would like nothing better to do than NOT be taking pictures but rather bellying up to the hosted bar for a few more rounds. :) posted in One Woman's Rant
