USA, CA/Death Valley: Dried Salt and Sculpted Mud

In the center of the image are two alluvial fans that extend into the basin of Death Valley. Because of the high evaporation rate the sediments (the mud) soon dry after rainfall and form these bizarre structures. This picture shows a dry salt creek that >flows< to the lowest part of the Death Valley basin; the Amargosa Range in the background .
