Horton Tower, an eighteenth century folly

Built by Humphrey Sturt in the 1700s Horton Tower is a folly ( a building constructed by wealthy landowners for no useful purpose). It may have been an observatory. Standing on a hill it dominates the surrounding Dorset countryside. more recently it has been restored and has discrete mobile phone antenae attached to it. It featured in a film of Thomas Hardy's novel Far from the Madding Crowd.
