General Electric GEnx

Wide chord carbon fibre composite engine fan of the General Electric GEnx turbofan on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Fan diameter: 111 inches) The smaller blade like structure behind the fan is known as the Variable inlet guide vanes (VIGV). It serves to direct airflow into the compressors at the optimal angle to prevent the compressor blades from stalling, which can cause the engine to surge and lose power.
