HAMBACH, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 1, 2010: One of the world's largest bucket-wheel excavators digging lignite (brown-coal) in of the world's deepest open-pit mines in Hambach on September 1, 2010. The excavator stands 311 feet tall, is 705 feet long and weighs 45,500 tons and is used for mining lignite. The bucket-wheels are capable of moving up to 240,000 cubic metres (8.510 million cubic feet) of earth per day.
