On the first Sunday after Easter (so this year on May 1th) Brasov celebrates Junii Brasovului, the centrepiece of which is a colourful horseback parade the origins of which go back at least as far as the 18th century. A mix of both pagan and Christian rituals, the modern Junii celebrations date from the end of the 19th century when the various groups of Junii (Junii meaning, literally, young men) were formed.
