In the southwest part of the Bolivian Andes, in the province of Sud Lípez, part of Potosi, in the middle of the Altiplano, people come along this unearthly red lake, called the Laguna Colorada. The red colour is caused by is caused by red sediments and pigmentation of some algae. It is populated by flamingos who live from these algae. It lies at an altitude of 4278m, close to the chilean border.
