Electric Blue Glow on Pacific Coast Waves ~ Red Tide Dinoflagellate Phytoplankton Bloom Lingulodinium Polyedrum The electric blue glow in these pacific coast waves is caused by a dinoflagellate bloom commonly referred to as a “red tide.” The organism which causes the red tide is a phytoplankton called Lingulodinium polyedrum and it turns the water an ugly brownish-red color during the daytime.
