Pop icons Eydie Gorme and Steve Lawrence perform at the Chicago Theater in Chicago, Illinois in February of 1983. Gorme, a winner of a Grammy and and Emmy, died 6 days short of her 85th birthday, on August 10, 2013 in Las Vegas where she and Steve Lawrence were married 55 years earlier. Among her hits were Blame it on the Bossa Nova and This Could be the Start of Something Big. The pair appeared often on the old Tonight Show with Steve Allen, and later Johnny Carson. She retired in 2009 as Lawrence continued to perform as a single act. Born in New York City, Gorme's parents were Sephardic Jewish immigrants: her father from Sicily and her mother from Turkey. She achieved much success early in her career singing in Spanish. By Laurence Agron.
