Curetes Street, Ephesus, Turkey

Ephesus was an ancient Greek city and later a major Roman city. It was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era. The library of Celsus in Ephesus was built in honor of the Roman Senator Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus in 135 AD by Celsus son, Gaius Julius Aquila. The library stored 12,000 scrolls and was a monumental tomb for Celsus who is buried in a sarcophagus in a crypt beneath the library.
