Ruins of Resafa Syria

Ruins at Resafa known in Roman times as Sergiopolis, in remote eastern Syria 200 km southeast of Aleppo. The ruins seen today were built by the Ghassanids, a Christianised Arab tribe. It became an important religious centre after the death of the Roman soldier Sergius who was martyred there around 305 AD.
