The Cathedral of St. Stephen is the main Roman Catholic church of Prato and seat of the bishop. It is dedicated to St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr and one of the most ancient churches in the city, existing already in the 10th century. It was built in several successive stages in the Romanesque style. In the early 15th century, a new facade was added in the International Gothic, in front of the old one. In the space between the two was created a corridor leading to the external pulpit.
