lack of composition?

I submitted this as a first image in hopes of being able to create a gallery of work here...but was rejected for "lack of composition." I'm a bit confused by how this is a lack of composition, so I'm hoping someone around here can give me more than a form answer. This particular image is my most downloaded piece on 2 other stock sites, and has been rated very well up to this point. Any thoughts?

JMO but what I see is a snapshot. Everything is in the same focal plane and nothing jumps out as the central point of focus giving the overall first impression that the image is very busy. Perhaps shooting with a smaller aperture to achieve a little variance in the DOF would have offset this image a little better for me.

My take on this would be that there are several things that make this not idea as a stock image (as I noted in another thread, my translation of "lack of composition" is "we don't like the composition).

-The old lamp is cut off at the top and on the right
-There's no clear focal point of the image. If it would be the sign, then it should be larger. If it would be a street scene, then there should be more than just the corner of a building
-The background isn't easy for a designer to work with. It's too busy with lots of little details. the lamp and sign against a blue sky, or an out of focus background, for example, would perhaps work better.
-The No parking sign and something under the lamp are cut off. It'd be better to have all of them or none.

This is all just my take, but I hope some of the thoughts are helpful.

Once you've uploaded more images, you'll get a sense for what works (and that does vary by site somewhat)

Thanks for the opinions. I didn't think much of this photo when I shot it to be honest, but it's proved popular in my portfolio thus far. Plus, it's been nationally published, so I felt it had some strength. I'll take another shot at uploading & see where it goes. :)

First, I got to tell you that I liked your picture, itīs a bit intriguing, I think.
One can wonder a lot of things by looking at it.
I can only think that this site is aimed to Designers and they might have some dificulties to use such a busy picture.
Its actually art, and art is difficult to evaluate.
Since I just started on this website and havent any pictures being evaluated yet, I hope I will get better luck.
Keep the goods going, because I think you are in the right path.

I loved it. . . composition is in the eye of the beholder. And, you've probably got a better eye than whoever evaluated this photo. There are some horribly composed photos on this website that seemed to get past the "JUDGE" -- so don't take it personally. Maybe he/she doesn't like bourbon.

I have let this conversation run for the sake of the critique request from fellow dreamers. If this dream turns into a nightmare offending image admins, I will not only have to close this thread but also proceed further.

Some excuses for the image admin (no matter who is he) would be highly appreciated especially as some of them work up to 12 hours reviewing thousands of images.

The thing to keep in mind when you belong to different sites is not all the photos will be approved at all of the sites. I belong to numerous sites and this happens all the time. Don't get discouraged. Just keep uploading. I have noticed that on this site people photos do the best, where as on others your example photo would do fine. Hope you stick around and keep trying.
