Greetings,

As you can see, I am a failure. I have no images approved. Although I admit, part of me will miss my 100% failure rating when I eventually have something in my portfolio. Make no mistake about it, one day I will and then my diabolical plans will truely come to fruition. *cue evil laugh*

A common rejection I get is that the photos I take are not stock so... I would really appreciate if you could take the time to look at these photos and give me any feedback regarding Stock value and composition.

I'v only given them a quick clean up in RAW so ignore the noise or any CA. I'm just looking for pointers to help me carry on from these.

Thanks all for your time

Theo

That's really negative! Rejection doesn't make you a failure!

Take more time watching online images and learn from what is there!
That's what I did! I had 6 months of rejection almost!!!

Here you think of who would buy this image, even if it's nice!

This one I don't think I will buy a saint with incomplete objects near by! TOYS!!

Dead Bird! I won't say more!

Cheer up and back to work!
Good Luck!

Andreeadobrescu - I'm not questioning a refusal. One of these images is in the queue and the other two have not been submited. I'm looking for advice for future submissions.

Mani33 - Erm... thanks. I know I'm not a failure. I was joking.

For image one, I thought it would be good for anybody who wanted a sign that said Bar. There are a number on Dreamstime already but they are neon and I saw this one and thought it was a great example and very typical of an Irish pub sign.

The saint has toys next to her because they are devotional offerings at a shrine. People leave toys there to remember dead children. I'm not convinced myself that it is stock.

The dead bird I thought would be a perfect stock image for anything to do with climate change or environmental issues. I can also see it as part of a road safety campaign. Caption could be something like "Now imagine if this was a child. SLOW DOWN." or similar.

There are 455 images here of dead birds so the reviewers must think that subject is stockworthy. Only thing you can do is submit them and see, every member here has a different idea of what might be appropriate and the reviewers are the ultimate deciders. The really successful contributors at DT seldom answer these types of questions on the forums.

Red - Bah. They are probably all terrified of the competition.

I think your advice to just try it and see is good and is pretty much what I have been doing so far. I am just very aware that I have not yet quite "clicked" into stock photography as I am coming into it from an abstract expressionist art background. Who knew the two areas wouldn't automatically gel into one great abstract stock expression wonderment?

We shall keep going an welcome any further advice.

Thanks!

Theorm:
Here's my humble opinion.
The first one could be ok. If you say there are bar signs in the database, you should clean it up and try. I would remove those cables and maybe the legend under the main sign. Give it vivid colors. Try to make it look better.
The second is a no go, I think. The objects are incomplete, and I'm not sure they can be ps'd out. In any case I can't think of any use for this image.
The third, even if it is a bit crude and I don't like it because of my love for all things alive... might work (again if you've searched the database and found some similar images). Also make it look good. Watch for noise and focus. Maybe you should scale it down.

Hope to be useful. Good luck, don't give up.

Thanks Ariel,

It's interesting that you recommend to remove the cables from picture 1. It isn't something I had thought of at all as (as a purely personal preference) I prefer to leave things alone as much as possible.

Picture 2 I agree with you on. I'm not sure it is stock and, unless one wanted to draw attention to cheap, mass produced papal iconography, it doesn't really DO anything other than gurn happily at the viewer.

Picture three is out of focus and full of noise so it is never going to get submitted, I was just keen to get some composition feedback on it as I thought it would have been a good one if I had been paying attention properly. I have some others I shot at the same time so... we shall see how it goes.

The thing I love about digital is that there is no reason to give up. I'm going to be taking photographs of stuff anyway so if I have the spare time (or I'm out somewhere promising) I might as well see what I can create and learn! I know I'll get there eventually and until I do I'll be able to take up valuable space on my hard disk with pictures of no use to anybody.

Take care and thanks for the input

Theo
