Upgrading/replacing my Nikon D40

Lx343
Hi All,

Just wondering if you could give me some tips and advises as I am planning to buy a new SLR. Currently I have a Nikon D40 with the two kitlenses ( 18-55mm & 55-200mm VR)

What would be a good suggestion to buy as upgrade, and can I use my current objectives on all new camera's?

I will definately stay with Nikon, since I am fully happy with the quality.

I have been checking on de D90, but am still doubting about this one.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Joost

Knowing your budget would help alot.

Not knowing your budget i would have to suggest the nikon d7000 they average about $1,000-$1,300 in price, Heres a link to it on nikons website

I use d3100 now.I think the best method is to go the the nikon store and put the camera in your hand, feel it,use it.

I prefer the D90,D7000.

D700,D3x is too heavy for me and as you konw D90,D7000 is enough for the microstock.

thanks for the replies so far.

My budget would be max $ 800 - 1000.- for the body

Is the D90 a model which gets replaced anytime soon?

It seems to be matching my criteria rather well.

Which camera will be the succesor of the D90? Is it the D7000?

thanks xiaofeng.

I will focus on the D90 then.

Do my current objectives for my D40 also fit this camera, since the objectives have the autofocus built in?

I would change the 18-55mm lens - its quality is very poor.

sure.D90 has the built in motor, can use many old lens.

I use the D90 before, the handle feeling is much better than D3100.

I'm with Costa, upgrading glass generally will give you much more quality-improvement per $.

What exactly is limiting you now using your D40?

When you have that clear, you can check the possible upgrades for those area's. Or you can decide to go for better glass first ;)
SB600, Pocket Wizard AC3 and Flex TT5's....

I already changed the 18-55mm and 55-200mm vr lenses with 18-200mm vr and i can say that it is much better now.

MP is an issue, with 6.0MP it is basically to low for my wishes.

Also the fact that 'new glass' is limited due to the autofocus is not built in the body is something to look at when you are investing.

My techniques and knowledge is still an area 'under development' so the basic utilties are still sufficient for me.
