I am not a designer or even very creative for that matter, but it doesn't make much sense to me to modify photos a lot. Any designer interested in downloading a given image should be able to insert whatever symbol or make whatever modifications they need on their own. Adding things they might have to remove would seem to detract from rather than enhance the sales value of an image.

Yes, you can insert symbols into your photographs with PS Element. You need to use Type Tool and layers. There are lots of tutorials on the web how to use Photoshop. But I love Adobe TV. Here's a link for you: CREATING TEXT. Even if you won't use text in your images, it's great to know the nuts and bolts of your Photoshop. ;)

Good luck!

Use Character Map in windows to copy the character to the clipboard. Then insert your cursor and paste.

PS element (2008) will do the job you talked about as well as PS CS5. It's not about tools, it's about skills.

Practice all these techniques on PS Elements and when you'll become a master you will know which tool you need for the job.

Maybe you could find some local PS technique courses, so you could learn the basic techniques from people who could show you right away how to do it, and then learn advanced techniques via internet? Just an idea.

I don't remember how it was done on Elements, but there should be an option to restart all tool settings. Maybe this could help?

Have fun with your PS! :))
