(Intended thread title for when the naming problem gets fixed: Collection and Lightbox Statistics) Would it be possible to get the number of collections and number of lightboxes an image is currently in added to the chart on the Online Files page? Currently, the only way (that I know of) to find this information is to view each image individually and look at the list at the bottom of the page. (Also, if I view my own image while being logged in, does it count as a view? Just curious.)

Well, the lines in the chart would be great but I have also been after the LB numbers on the image list in the management area (On-line files). That would give more detailed stats in terms of current sales potential of each image.

As far as I know your own logged-on views are NOT added to the views stats.

We're talking about the same area. :-)

I agree that this would definitely provide more detailed information. The data already exists on the servers; it would just be great to have it shown in this Online Files area from our Management area.

Heh, from what I can grasp here, LB numbers are never going to be in the list, because there will always be something "more important" to do for DT programmers... even though replacing views with lightbox counter on the "online files" list is a very tiny task of replacing one variable name with the other, which is done in virtually no time.

Note that views numbers are shown three times more often (search results, your port page & online files - in all the cases one does not need to open the image page), WHY??? - rhetoric question, apparently...

Most photographers are interested in the number of views and sales.
We aim to direct the site's resources to the best features and not clutter pages with features that would be less relevant. Knowing how many lightboxes an image is in doesn't give you a real perspective on how many times if could be downloaded. Not all lightboxes end up in sales.

Thank you for your response. Please, take my pardon, but this is nonsense... as well as all the "hassle" about the two threads I initiated recently that were deleted for no good reason. For ex., I still often don't see my "more images" on an image page, which I am sure reduce the exposure of my port. Maybe other people did not notice it or do not care, but I do.

It's a pitty to hear that Dreamstime does not plan on adding the lightbox and collection statistics, but it is good to know that the idea was at least seen and thought about. I personally feel that this piece of information can be helpful in tracking marketing strategies, but in the end it is up to the DT staff to determine what features are worth pursuing. Thanks for letting us know you heard the request.

Also, will you let us know if a centralized area that shows this information does come available (or any method that is easier than clicking on each image individually)? Thanks.

You see, I don't have any issue with DT's prioritising their updates and the efforts of their programmers. However, the admins' response given above does not consider the opinions of many contributors' who previously and recently complained about the inconvenience of having the LB numbers only on the image-pages and not on the list of uploaded files.

Besides, the value of view numbers has been discussed so many times and every time the debates ended up with the conclusion that judging about image selling potential by views is misleading, if not meaningless (because the view numbers include all external non-member/non-buyer "hits", even by search engines). In contrast, lightbox counters do contain meaningful stats about the buyers' interest to the images and, at least, can be used as a guidance as to what in your port has a potential to sell sooner or later and what doesn't. Even though not all LB-hits will bring you a sale, that negative stats of seeing an LB-counter dropping without a sale does tell you that the image/concept just needs to be improved and so on.

I would not bother about it if (1) it was not debated so often, (2) it was not so easy to implement, either way: instead of view numbers, or beside that column in the list. If the extra space needed is concerned, for ex, I doubt many people need to see the upload date for every image next to the online-since/approval date, so that's where the needed room for the LB column can be found.

Andromantic, if space is the problem, then the "Exclusive Image" and the "Edit" columns could be reduced in size. It's more likely a concern about cluttering the chart with too many columns and the manpower involved in implementing the change and pulling the data. In theory, it would be a simple change. However, I have worked with enough code bases to know that things are often more complex than it seems they should be. :-)

I am a programmer myself, and the only overhead I anticipate in this case is the update of pages and their re-caching, which is still a very minor thing. There could be extra load on servers updating the numbers, but that could be done only once a day or so.

DT, please add this super-useful feature! You are saying that number of lightboxes is not very meaningful, because not every lightbox results in a purchase, but how about number of views? It is already in the table, and in my experience it is much less useful than the number of lightboxes: I probably get one sale per a few hundred (sometimes a thousand) views, whereas it only takes 1-2 lightboxes to get a sale.

If anything, I'd rather you remove the useless "Views", and replaced it with "Lightboxes" column, in the "Your online files" table.

Please do the change - it takes so much time to go into each photo just to see how it is doing in terms of lightboxes.

This issue has been raised almost two years ago, and still no meaningful reaction from DT - this is a shame!

Add my vote - I think Lightboxes are a far more useful metric than Views!
