It's Autumn for many of us and believe it or not, we've never had a fall assignment so far. High time we had one because it's harvest time, tree foliage is amazingly colorful, the weather is mild, school starts, new seasons open for festivals, operas or TV shows, cities get livelier, orange is back in fashion and we're one step closer to the winter holiday season. These are just a few reasons we like Autumn but let's see why you fall for Autumn every fall.

Plenty of seasonal activities like fruit picking take place in Autumn so we'd like to see people making wine, cleaning up the dry leaves in the back yard, canning preserves, baking pumpkin pies. This season is not all about work, it's also about fun so head for the park and play with leaves or attend a harvest celebration. If you do go to a harvest celebration, remember that the fruit abundance and variety create cascades of colors so put together a cornucopia still life. Now that we've mentioned color, Autumn is indeed a festival of colors so focus on that. Just remember we're looking for original ways of showing the chromatic flamboyance we see every fall. Leaves are classic but we're expecting a lush colorful foliage to make an impression. Colorful usually means happy so exuberant people wearing outfits in autumnal colors are an idea. Seasons changing bring changes in light, temperature but also mood. Autumn is sometimes gloomy, foggy and rainy so melancholic or romantic moods can make good Autumn concepts with the proper autumnal setting of course. Don't forget that this is also the season when children go back to school or birds migrate so think of Autumn as marking both beginnings and endings.

Most in love with Autumn photographers will harvest $300 for the first place, $200 for the second place and $100 for the third place. The winners will also get our all season Dreamstime branded t-shirts to wear on any season, fall especially.

Good luck!

It would be nice if sometimes the judges would be a little more open minded. Also, I a not sure why loads of the time, a photo that is submit is completely critiqued and not accepted for various reasons, but yet, on the main system it was accepted, and can even have sales. It shows sometimes how not open someone can be.

I've had photos in the past critiqued about lighting or exposure, yet the photo could have several downloads.

That is where I would love a little more explaining on the acceptances and refusals.

This assignment focuses on the concept of autumn/falls, on what this season has to offer, so we are looking for creativity, expression, color, mood, rather than exif date of shot.
So, please don't feel left aside just because in your hemisphere it's spring.
There's so much one can do both inside and outdoors to get that feel of falls, not to mention everyone perceived this season differently. Think about mood, color, shape.

Jill, if i understand correctly, you don't see why an image that is accepted as regular RF stock is refused for the assignment.
The assignment section is meant to show the maximum creative potential of our contributors, on a given theme, in terms of both technical skill and concept. That is why we reward each assignment image with a default level 5.

I searched the message boards but can't find out how to submit an already approved file to this assignment. I remember reading something about having to disable it first. Can anyone point me to the right info please?

don't disable until it has been approved. Not guaranteed to have approved. You have to submit the photo as if for the first time. BUT once it gets into the upload section, you click on the assignments, submit assignment, and the uploaded photo should be there. Then key it in all over again. Hope this helps
