To all my fellow New Yorkers and not only, as Hurricane Sandy approaches I know how tempted you must be just to get out and take some unbelievable shots. My advice from previous experiences: stay home, have an eye on the news and most important, be safe!

Good advise!! I'm in Maryland watching the wind pick up outside. Hope everyone effected by this storm is safe and dry. Good luck! Also, don't drink too much at your hurricane party, you just may need to make some emergency decisions and act fast!! :)

Luckily a storm like this only occurs once in a lifetime.

Stay safe everybody.

I live 1500 miles from the coast and had the edge of the cloud system pass overhead.

Halloween monster!

Hey, Wisconsinart, you should send us some photos with the cloud for the editorial section.

One photographing such event should always put safety first. But we consider that there are many professional photographers among you that will know how to approach such subjects.
Our premise when asking for event images is that what you eyes can see also does the camera. Clouds formation above the silhouetted city taken from your window can make a good news photo.

Glad to hear you all made it. In NYC the situation is not so good, as you probably know from the news. It's gonna be a long way until all services will be restored. Thanks God I live on a a plateau far away from the flooded coast.

Just another cloud rejection from this vantage point. I've been in hurricanes, this is close enough!

Living in Florida, I have seen my share of hurricanes. They are never fun. My heart goes out to the folks in New York, New Jersey, and elsewhere that have been affected by Sandy. You are all in my prayers. Hope the recovery is quick.

I know how you feel. When you are hit with a disaster, survival instinct kicks in and, at least for me, the last thing you feel like doing is running around with the camera.

Hope you get your power back and life back to normal soon Jon.
