I am going to upgrade my old mobile, and now that DT is taking mobile pics I am wondering which mobile to buy which wont cost an arm and a leg.

Any suggestions?

Pretty general question. Some phones only work with certain carriers, some work better in specific countries, what is your definition of "an arm and a leg", do you want to buy a cell phone just to take pics and not use as a cellphone (that's possible), do you want to use android or symbian or apple camera apps on the phone? You need to define what you are looking for as your final goal. I would suggest seeing what your carrier offers and then looking for reviews on the net under those phones in camera performance. Every phone has been reviewed. CNET is a good place to search for this kind of info.

I have photos approved with: Nokia N79 (old phone but with Carl Zeiss 5Mp camera), Samsung Galaxy S2, iphone 4&5. Nokia and Samsung let me chose some setting, like ISO or exposure compensation (not s speed or aperture). Iphone don't let you change nothing, and post processing is very limited.
If you choose Nokia, be aware that are few app for photography, like Android have. But if you choose Nokia and do the post processing on a pc, will be a good choice.

Edit: lumia 1020 will cost you an arm and two legs :-) very expensive, like an entry level 24 Mpx dslr camera.

Would you say a Carl Zeiss is an asset in a mobile phone?

In the end I got a nokia lumia, the quality is not great but it is nice to snap away and not get funny looks - so far nothing I would dream of submitting.
