As most of you noticed, we've seen an increased demand for subscription lately. Our monthly plans work well along with credits to push good content to a higher level and to produce better total revenue. The downside compared to credits is that they require more images and award much lower royalties.

As customers get more used with subscriptions, there is potential to enlarge this offer, many of them asking for more flexibility. We're therefore announcing two new type of plans that grant the ease of use of subscriptions, while awarding a better royalty to the contributors than the regular subs.

These plans are now available at $39 and $69, giving access to five or ten files. The files can be downloaded anytime throughout the next 30 days. The royalties awarded are $2.00 for non-exclusive contributors and $2.20 for exclusives. These values are computed based on our historical average for downloads generated by both credits and subscriptions.

They are launched only for a part of the customers for now, as we plan to monitor their behaviour and overall impact.

We'll be fine-tuning this so please offer your feedback or post any glitches that you might find. We hope you will notice the new plans have strong potential while generating better royalties. We expect many of the regular subscription customers to switch to these two plan since many have been requesting lower volumes.

What happened to the exclusive contributors getting 60% of a photo sale? 69$/10 = 6.90$ earned by DT per photo. Why exclusives will only get 2.20$ per photo (only 32%)?

It is becoming less and less attractive to be exclusive with DT. I joined DT mainly because it was such an attractive place to do business once you become exclusive. Not anymore. I am seriously considering quitting exclusiveness here.

Subs have been killing me, I hope this works. And yeah, would be fair to get my 60%.

Been collecting subs from the last dozen sales, hope this works; this package is going to get customers to buy images that they need rather than want, so quality images are going to attain their deserving levels sooner and less merit images are more likely to be retained.

Pulsar has a point there....the 60% was also my reason to stay. What would the reason for the 32% be then? It is, as rightly mentioned, becoming more attractive to use multiple agencies.

I'm surprised it isn't the 20% bonus, at least, afforded under the current subscription plans (42/35).

Achilles - can you clarify if you mean that it is based on the image being exclusive, or the contributor? $2 seems in line with my overall RPD based on sub and credit sales together, so that seems great if it draws people from subscriptions (which is where you suggest the need is coming from), but possibly negative if it encourages credit buyers to buy in bulk...

As usual, I don't understand the math, but if I will not see revenue rise till the end of August I will become angry, mad, nervous, fussy, hysterical and, of course, very sad.

As said above, we're looking into this and will monitor the customers' behaviour. I don't see this as a downgrade since regular subscriptions are $0.42. This is actually a significant upgrade for subs and many customers will switch, awarding $2.2 rather than $0.42. But if they will harm credit royalties we will adjust the plans accordingly.

If this means that instead of the 42cents I received for my last six sales (exclusive!) I will now get $2.20 then I'm well pleased!
It will be interesting to see if the number of credit sales decreases......

If it can be guaranteed that there won't be any more .42c subscription sales out there I can live with that. It still does however not conform to the 60% exclusivity for exclusive members. Either way...as mentioned. $ 2.20 is better than .42c

I doubt this will reduce the number of 0.42c buyers (these are large companies, so they will continue buying in bulk).

What will likely happen that the current credit buyers will embrace the new model, meaning we will get much less credit sales. This will hurt especially our best selling photos: right now I'm getting ~10$ per credit sale on my best sellers, and it sounds like all these buyers will opt for the new 2.20$ plan, meaning my overall income will go down by a factor of four.

DT: you have to reconsider your 32% payoff to exclusives, dont' be too griddy; you might loose most of us. It is not a good excuse to say "it's better because you got 0.42c before". As I mentioned above, I suspect most of the buyers who will embrace the new plan will come from the credit buyers pool (where we used to get 60% of sales as exclusives). And this has nothing to do with DT trying to be more competitive: you'll simply keep a larger fraction of the sale to yourself. Nothing but pure avarice on the DT's side IMHO.

Anyone considering quitting the exclusive status, the conditions are outlined here:

"An Exclusive Contributor may terminate their status as an Exclusive Contributor with thirty (30) days prior written notice to Dreamstime.com. If an Exclusive Contributor terminates this Agreement prior to the passage of six (6) months, Dreamstime.com reserves the right to recover all commission payments made to the Exclusive Contributor prior to the termination of Exclusive Contributor status. These payments include the upload bonus received after each accepted submission and the extra Revenue Share earned by exclusive contributors."

I am not clear about the point in bold - is it 6 month from the moment I became exclusive, or is it computed individually for each of my photograph I submitted as an exclusive photographer? I've been exclusive for more than 1 year. Say, if I submit my "written notice" today, and it gets accepted after 30 days, what's gonna happen to all my uploads and sales in the last 5 months - will I have to pay back to DT all these "exclusive" bonuses + 0.20c per upload?

And read this line from the same official link:

"Exclusive contributors shall receive sixty (60%) percent of the net sale price received by Dreamstime.com for the exclusive images they have contributed to the site which are subsequently sold by Dreamstime.com."

As far as I can tell this is totally untrue.

Okay, but even if I become non-exclusive photographer all my photos will stay exclusive, right? I can convert them to non-exclusive only after I myself become non-exclusive? How long exclusive photos have to stay exclusive before I can revert them to non-exclusive without paying any penalty? Is it another 6 months?
