I see the photo sizes listed for purchase but the sizes I am looking for aren't there. Since I am putting the pictures on my web site is it ok to put an 800 pix photo into a 990 picture spot on the site, is this allowed or should I get the picture listed that is much bigger which is something like 2000 pix and make it smaller. If I can put the smaller picture into a little bit bigger spot will it change the clarity of the picture much.

Expense aside, it is always better to shrink an image to fit a smaller space, however if the upscale is small many images won't be that adversely affected. Line art might suffer the most.

Get the larger one and size it down. Enlarging the image might result in visible loss of quality.

I bought a bunch of 800 pix pictures and put them into a big header on my site 990 wide like you are talking about and it looks fine, but you would have to judge for yourself because the pictures might say high resolution I think it will differ from picture to picture.
