Editorial - yes or no?

Chipclark
Any image I submit that can be identified as a product/brand or property I have always uploaded as editorial. However, after some searches I'm finding lots of images like this that are not posted as editorial. Do a search on "mustang" and you'll see what I mean.

Thought I knew these rules pretty well but now I'm not so sure. Wouldn't an image like that need to be editorial?

I believe that any illustrations or artist's renditions of them can be RF, but as far as I know, you are correct that the actual vehicle photos should be editorial. You can notify admin if you find any that should be editorial I guess.

I have seen some things that have become a bit more strict. For instance, in 2007, I had a photo of the backs of two people accepted as RF. Now you need a model release for those types of photos, even silhouettes! So perhaps DT is cracking down.

I just took a quick look at some of the mustang photos, the ones with the logo they have as editorial but the ones that have been removed were rf, I didn't go through them all but on a quick look they seem okay. I think as long as you get rid of every name and logo even on the tires its okay as rf

Then perhaps I misunderstood the requirements. I thought even if the product (in this case a Mustang) is obviously a Mustang it would need a release or be used as editorial only.

Check the date of the images you are viewing (image number. lower is older). Many rules have changed since DT began and requirements have been tightened throughout the years on copyrights and trademarks. Unfortunately these new stricter rules are not retroactive unless someone reports the older images. It takes too long to look at every older image for these types of restrictions. Also, some of the reviewers are not familiar with every trademark rule. They do catch 99.9% of the new uploads though. If you want to make a list and send it to Support they will change them from RF to Editorial.

Thanks for the info. No, I really don't want to be reporting anyone's images. Just trying to keep myself straight on future submissions. Thanks!
