KeyMentors

After the recent posts on the boards from fellow photographers we came up with a new position, the KeyMentor.

KeyMentor can be any registered user that has strong knowledge of English language. All you have to do is to be logged in your account and click the link underneath the image for suggesting new keywords.

You have to add at least 10 new terms in order for the submission to be accepted and you can do it only once per image. You cannot suggest keywords to your own images.

The suggestion enters a waiting list and if accepted, will reward your account with a symbolic two cents per image. If the suggestion is not accepted, no notification is sent. Spam will not be tolerated.

Thanks to CaroleGomez, Sophieso and the other girls and boys that suggested this, as well as thanks to Raycan for coming up with the name. We hope you will find it useful.

Just my two cents. :)

Interesting idea!

How does it work? The keywords get suggested, then checked by a reviewer? Then forwarded onto the image owner to see if they want to add them?

I have a question about this. Can we also make suggestions for keywords that should be removed from an image. Say in the instance where it really has nothing to do with the image or it's concept? This can be as much of a problem to designers as not having the right keywords added. Maybe if we put - and then the word that should be considered for removal. Of course in the end it's up to whomever to remove that word.

Just a question.

Actually the owner is not asked, that's a thing we didn't consider. It could complicate the things a little bit. As long as the editors review them and they modified the keywords before, we didn't consider this to be a problem. Do you think so?

Yes, I forgot to add that a second link "Report bad keywords" was also included.

This will allow you to notify us if a user is spamming the search results. This feature doesn't provide any earnings though.

Thanks, no problem about not earning anything for that. It's just important that the designers don't get a lot of fluff with each search or they'll stop searching altogether.

is ther a way to know how long until the suggestions are reviewed, like pending files just pending suggestions?

Hmm... didn't I suggest something like that last year :)

Very good idea though. I mean, obviously we're not all going to sit down and do a lot of work for 2 cents, but I'm sure all of us have seen that lovely photo (for me it was a great photograph of a meerkat) by another photographer and went: "DUH! Where are all the right keywords???". So I think this might help especially those photographers who... suck at English :). And those of us who speak it well, can feel like mentors now.

And cheerio for reporting bad keywords. I for one don't buy pictures... well RARELY. But I have noticed photos, even great photos by great photogs, with keywords that have absolutely nothing to do with... anything. I wondered how designers felt about it, but judging by the response I guess it can be a problem.

Yoohoo! As I'm typing this, I just got my first 2 cents for re-keying someone's picture.
