Blog Skins

I have used Dreamstime photos previously for tutorials and website design.

I need to make "skins" for bloging systems we have running on two different sites.

I feel that this is considered part of the webdesign as these skins are only selectable by the blogger or registered viewer.

However, before I started creating these I wished to check and make sure that I was correct since they will not be available for download Free or otherwise.

Thanks

((Edited to clarify that I by falling into webdesign I mean under the Royalty Free purchase))

This usage is not acceptable under royalty free license because there would be more then one person using the same skin which practically turns it into a template.

You can only use images with the web extended license for this.

So for the webdesign use we are not allowed to use "skins" that people can select when surfing our site only one scheme?

Thanks that really clears things up.

It sounds to me like maybe Aliweiss is using the word "skins" in a different way than you're used to Nikitu. Unless I am misunderstanding - which I could be. I think what is meant in this case is nothing more than a customizable look and feel of a website. Not a download-able skin for a program or something. You can set different backgrounds and colors for a website for individual users with the use of cookies. And if this the the case, I would think that is allowed.

I think you both are talking about two different things.

Its a really gray area. We have paid subscribers they use our site.. they can select how they want the skin to appear on their blog within our site. Some could view that as "selling" templates though they are not allowed to download the actual skins themselves.

That is why I posted for clarification before undertaking the redesign project on. I love dreamstime photos and photographers and have used them in a lot of work but understand when the times will come when we cannot due to overhead cost.

Anything I say, will need to be clarified by Admin. However, it still sounds to me as if it would be OK. Lots of sites have paid subscribers. The images on those are OK under a royalty free license. As long as those images are not what their paid subscription is for.

You won't be selling the images - or making them available for download - right? You are just letting people customize their own area of YOUR SITE - right?

I still think it sounds OK. I am interested to see what the admins say.

Good luck to you, and keep an eye on this thread. Maybe Nikitu will look into it further, or Achilles will chime in.

Yes we are an online community with member pages, blogs and chat. These "skins" would be designed and uploaded by me into our blog system we are using for use on our site only. A special member bennifet as they will not be redistributed and exclusive to our site alone.

As I said i know this is really iffy cause we get into the template issue yet template of a users on a website. This is why I wanted to check first. It is not detering me from all use of dreamstime I just can't afford the EL liscense for enough photos to make up 10 or so templates per site.

This still doesn't fit to the regulations of the RF license. A customer is paying to have a blog (that is a personal page on which he puts info or other things and that others can see) and you give them a choice of a skin. It is considered to be a type of template and falls under the regulations of the web extended licenses.

PS: We appreciate all help from our users but please let us clear the licenses issues, we don't wanna confuse the person who's asking with to many answers

Sorry DT admin, I did not know that having a link to a free photo agency, which doesn't even come close to the quality here, would be against admin rules. But no problem...I'll refrain from giving any links to other agencies here in the future.
