I'm looking for ONE short advice (about 20 words) from as many photographers as possible, and that will probably be based on your worst experience in photography, but can help another not to repeat what happened to you. A few examples could be ...
"Do NOT throw your camera from a moving vehicle."
"Make sure you are dressed before starting to shoot pictures in public."

Please limit yourselves to one advice only, this will bring out (as I said) the worst scenarios that can happen :)
Ok, and now getting to serious stuff :

Make sure your memory card is actually IN the camera before starting to shoot.

If you try to change the lenses on the camera, MAKE SURE it has the right mount for it. If it doesn't fit, don't try too hard.

If you disassemble your camera (curiosity might make you do that... I know:)), make sure you have another one, just in case...:)

Don't let your friends play with your diopter adjustment (and if they do, be sure you get even by playing with theirs).

When you don't use your tripod and decide to leave it on the ground as you shoot, make sure you actually pick it up before you leave the area (esp. when you have 30 school kids running around).

If you keep your shutter release tied to your tripod (so you do not lose it) ensure that it does not get caught in the joints of the legs when you close the tripod - it squishes it!

And, after you figure out that you're not losing your eyesight, be sure you actually take the photo you were planning before you found everything blurry.

Always zip your camera bag after you put your camera back in it. You'll invariably forget that it isn't zipped. You'll yank it out of your car and . .whoops. . crash.

don't stand behind backpack and step forward. Doing so may cause you to lose balance and the camera to bounce across the concrete.
