I use Bogen / Manfrotto 3001BN Tripod Legs and 486RC2 Compact Ballhead. The combo cost about 200$ and B&H. Works great for me. For lenses like 70-200 F4L and larger I recommend a tripod ring to mount the lens and not the camera.
Of cause it could be lighter, but then you will need carbon-fibre, which is much more $$$.
Regards,
Thorsten

Thanks, Thorsten, I've been leaning towards Manfrotto.
Love the diversity of your portfolio, btw !

I don't have that many pics online yet but I thought I would put in my opinion on this. I also use Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BPro legs and the 488RC2 head. I have used Bogen/Manfrotto for about 10 years and have never had any problem with either legs or heads. Also ordered from B&H, very easy to work with and good customer service! |

i use a bogen 3011 and bogen pistol grip head on location and in studio. very quick and easy to position with the squeeze handle. for travel, i take a velbon luxi which fits perfectly in my rolling case and weighs little. |

I use a feisol carbon fiber tripod, pretty good for the $$$.
But if you're doing mostly studio work, you probably won't need a CF tripod. So you can save some cash for a better tripod head.

No chance of the wind blowing it. I don't use it for studio shots though. |

I have a Velbon 631CF, very light (carbon fibre) and really versatile: can suspend the camera under the legs to get near ground level and extends above my eyeline too.

Quite sturdy, but it looks difficult to transport. Do you carry a saw?
