Hi All,
I have customized a firefox addon to display stats for DT in the firefox status bar. The addon displays the number of images that you have online and your current earnings balance. I would like to add the number of downloads at some stage but thats a little bit more complicated, well at least for me with my limited Java skills. The stats update every 15mins.
Its based on a similar addon and so i am talking with the creator to see if its okay to distribute/test. It is very basic but it works and means you dont have to have DT website open all the time to see your stats. Of course it would be freely available to DT members if it works out.
How many of you guys would actually use it? opinions from admins is it okay to do this? I dont want to step on anyones toes here.
cheers,
Rossco

Gimme....I want it!
With this addon, I'll make alot more money since it updates by itself every 15 minutes.
Because I usually check manually every 5 hours or so. |

I like the idea and if it were available, I'd use it. Thanks for putting something like this together! |

This type of software has been discussed before. We appreciate that you did ask for our opinion and this could be a useful tool.
However, the agency cannot endorse the use of such software as it has access to the member's login and password. I am sure that your intentions are good however, we strongly suggest that all users must keep their login details strictly confidential. And that includes not using a third party software that has access to private data. |

actually it does not require any input from the user. nothing is inputed into the program. it simply parses & reads the data from the main DT page. if the user does not have an authenticated session they would need to login from the main page for it to work.

It doesn't alter the security issue. Of course I'm not implying that you do this, but a hacker/phisher with some stealth code could access your finances and account page. So could you please explain in detail wether your toolbar is a client- or server-based script and wether it sends data back to any server? It should be client-based of course and just do passive parsing. In that case, the source code should be open for verification.

Anyone can extract the xpi file and have a look at the Java script if they like. happy to send it on request. simple get request and regular expression to extract the data from the returned page.

Would it be possible for a member of the DT programming team to check the code to ensure it is safe (or at least as safe as it can be) and then make it available?
I currently use Safari on the Mac, would it be possible to do something similar for that? I do have Firefox, but find it slower.
What would be even cooler would be a Dashboard widget...

Hi Stuart,
-not a mac user but someone might be able to adapt the principal to a widget.
-havent used safari much before does it support xpi extensions? if so then it should work as its mozilla browser compatible (not that i have tested it).
I dont think it would be endorsed by DT anyway even if i did make it available unofficially. I found it very useful as i am sure most DT users would. Might throw this to the to hard basket.
cheers,
Rossco
